Hugh Schmid
Professional Sound Technician
"Anything is possible."
Hugh was born in Regina and lived all over B.C. before moving to Campbell River in 1990. A talented hockey player, Hugh worked in the mining industry before opening his own recording studio where he does free lance sound recording. Hugh's specialty is designing and engineering the sound for live events, such as touring rock bands, the opening and closing ceremonies for the 1997 B.C. Winter Games, and theatrical presentations like the original musical 'Rediscovering The River'. Hugh has worked with such Canadian musical icons as Prairie Oyster, Don Herron, Catherine McKinnon and Buffy St. Marie, and spent five years crisscrossing Canada on various tours with the Juno award winning Gary Fjellgaard. Music and voice over work recorded and / or mixed by Hugh has been featured on the C.B.C., C.T.V, A.&E., and Much Music. Currently Hugh is working as a producer on a number of local CD projects. Hugh is also a skilled guitar player, song writer and arranger. He often lends his talents as a musician in the studio and during live performances. As a valuable member of the Splashes team he serves not only as sound engineer, but has also done some carpentry work in the studio, and is very skilled at solving logistical problems that arise on location. Hugh's philosophy of life is to enjoy the moment because you only go around once.
